This blog follows my travels throughout the Horns Across America Project for the University of Cincinnati Honors College.  To learn more about the project, read my first entry here.

A Few Words of Thanks:

This list will grow as the blog progresses and I use various sources for research and references.  For now, here’s a beginning to what I’m sure will become a long list of thank yous:

– Randy Gardner: Mr. Gardner is my teacher and adviser for the Horns Across America project.  He has been very supportive and encouraging throughout this undertaking, and has been instrumental in helping me contact horn players across the country.  I am deeply grateful for his support.

– UC Honors College: The honors college at UC encourages students to think outside the box and challenge themselves to take charge of projects such as this.  The challenge to design a meaningful “Honors Experience” encouraged me to take ownership of this project and make it my own.  My honors adviser, Leah Joos, helped me shape the project into something meaningful to myself and my education.

– My parents: This seemed like a crazy idea at first, but my parents have been nothing but supportive as I make arrangements to travel.  This has the potential to become a fantastically educational experience and it wouldn’t be possible without their encouragement and support!

You’re awesome. Keep it real. You make me regret my decision not to go into music so much more.

Thank you for writing this blog! So very interesting! I’ll have my students read this too because it’s very helpful for young people to read some history on horn sound/sections etc…

What a treat to come across your blog – I am a 1987 graduate from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music – BFA in Dance. I remember Randy Gardner quite well! He dated one of the dancers in the Ballet Company! It is nice to know he is still around.

Music Hall is stunning and I completed a huge research project on it when I was in high School and in Freshman English. I also danced on the stage for over 10 years as a dancer with the Cincinnati Ballet Company and the Cincinnati Summer Opera Ballet. I remember Eric Kunzel drinking his Heineken Beer a few hours before going on stage (it was part of his routine), watching the Pops Orchestra, seeing Baryshnikov, the American Ballet Theatre and Seiji Ozawa conducting… I could go on forever.

It has been a pleasure reading your post and I look forward to reading more in the future. Thank you for giving me a little trip down memory lane. Kimberly
